Mia Zepeda: News

Much love for www.theyeogiyo.com! - October 13, 2009

Many thanks to the lovely people at www.theyeogiyo.com, who mentioned me in their Haebangchon Festival description on their monthly events list. If you're a foreigner living in Korea, check out their website for all kinds of information on and help with adjusting, adapting, and getting around this beautiful country. They have a very pleasant and helpful forum as well.

The bi-annual Haebangchon Festival is again approaching, falling on Halloween day this year! Come wearing costumes because there will be contests at each of the venues.

That's all for now, but I'm trying to get some new songs uploaded, so stay tuned!

Website Makeover! - September 27, 2009

Hello!

After taking a summer long break from shows of any kind, I'm back from the dead and playing every Wednesday at Dublin again. I'd love to see you there :)

Also, I gave the site a makeover. It was time.

Flowers! Spring! HBC Fest! Parents? - May 11, 2009

It's almost time for HBC Fest again! Clear your schedule for May 30th, it's always more fun if you're there all day. I'm playing at Cafe Alexandria at 7pm, but as always, the festival starts at 2pm.

I just finished dragging my parents all over Korea on their first visit here, and they loved it, and will probably be back if I stick around (mission accomplished). If you were at Dublin the night they were there to see me play, thanks for being part of such an amazing crowd! The group participation on "F*** her gently" really helped my parents find the humor in the song, instead of being completely horrified by the words I was singing. Although I'm sure the beer didn't hurt :)

Download songs for free! - November 9, 2008

First of all, HBC Fest was awesome, as always! Thanks to Lance for running yet another amazing festival, and for everyone who hosted and donated their time and music :)

Second, I have some free song downloads at www.songsprouts.com/miazepeda
Songsprouts has a lot of other artists to browse through, also offering downloads for free! Membership is free and easy, check it out!

Third, I performed at a launch party for www.theyeogiyo.com, and the party was so much fun! If you are a foreigner living in Korea, this website is going to make your life so much easier! Thank you to Sue, Justin, Bona, and Sam for inviting me to play, and for putting on such a spectacular event. (I'm sorry Carleen, that I didn't play "F*** her gently", it just didn't seem like the right venue... but I promise I'll play it the next time you come to see me play!)

Until next time... be happy and stay warm!

ROKtober Fest! - October 20, 2008

Admittedly I've been laying low over the summer months, and I apologize for being so absent and neglectful. Now that fall is here though, the bi-annual Haebangchon Festival is coming up again! Next weekend is Haebangchon's ROKtober Fest, and it's going to be spectacular. There are 35 acts playing, and this time there are at least 4 other (solo) female names on the roster other than mine!!! Yay girls!

Check out the line-up at www.hbcfest.com, or www.myspace.com/hbcfest
I hope to see you there!!!

THANK YOU!!! - May 25, 2008

First things first. To my lovely coworkers who trekked out to the military base on a Friday night for my first show, I love you :) To everyone who made it out to the Haebangchon Festival: thank you so much for coming!!! To everyone who made it to my set that day: I LOVE YOU!!!! I had the best crowd ever, seriously, everyone was so great, I had such a good time playing for you guys! Huge thanks to Lance for running the Festival, Yvon for running the show at Phillies, and to Ronjon for letting me invade his apartment all weekend.

This weekend was a bit of a whirlwind! I played a show at the Navy Club on the US base on Friday night, and had the festival on Saturday afternoon. Fortunately my fellow musician and friend Ronjon let me crash on his couch so I didn't have to take the bus back and forth 20 times.

I had some trouble getting to the festival, my first cab driver drove me to the top of the mountain... and after I walked all the way down, the second driver took me right back up again. After suffering the humid sun with a rapidly worsening hangover for two hikes down a mountain in flip flops I kind of wanted to shave my head. I finally made it to the venue with 15 minutes to spare, and in my frazzled mood I managed to forget half my lyrics and most of my chord progressions, and the crowd managed to not only graciously overlook this, but to basically make me feel like a total rock star.

I spent Sunday shopping like crazy, so by the time I left Seoul to head back to good ol' Jukjeon with a guitar on my back, a giant purse slung to the side, a full back pack on my front, and two large shopping bags in my hands I either looked like a gypsy musician (I'd be ok with that), or a crazy homeless person (more likely).

I have no voice left today. Teaching Kindergarten should be very interesting tomorrow.

Haebangchon Music Festival! - April 23, 2008

Spring is here! The trees are finally green and the flowers are out, and the Haebangchon Music Festival is coming up! Anyone here in Korea who loves live music should definitely check it out. It all starts at 3pm, and goes till midnight-ish? I'm playing at 4pm at Phillies. (See my "calendar" for more info/directions). The HBC Fest in October was a blast, so you should absolutely come out if you can!

Now I have to finish writing Kindi report cards, aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh!

Sooo uhhh yeah.... - April 7, 2008

If you showed up to RMT in Hongdae on April 4th expecting to see me, I'm really sorry... I'm a bit out of it this month and I actually played on the military base that night- woops. The show went fantastically well, HUGE thanks to Ronjon for setting the show up and providing excellent sound equipment, and for getting my friends on base to see the show... huge thanks to my friends for going the distance and coming out to see me despite the obstacles, you guys are the best!

I should have some more shows to post soon...

Also, I'm playing at the Haebangchon Festival on March 24th, details to come soon :)

Anywhooo, enjoy the springtime, I know I am, just the sight of the few cherry blossoms that are out already makes me giddy.

Shows and songs and whatnot - March 30, 2008

I finally have a show coming up, I've basically been sick and without a voice for three long months... but I'm back :) A friend pointed out that I haven't updated in a while, and he's right, so I thought I'd stop neglecting and start updating. One new song is available on this very site for your listening pleasure, and there is at least one more to come, fairly soonish. That's all for now, if you live in Korea, I hope to see you in Hongdae on April 4th! (see "calendar dates" for more info).

New layout - December 22, 2007

The blandy beige was just too churchy.

Also, songs are uploaded to listen to in the music section now, woo hoo!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Fugly is as Fugly does - December 18, 2007

1) Welcome to my new website!

2) It's still under construction

3) Don't judge a book by... well, you know

I know what you're thinking. You're thinking "uhhhh, did I type that address right? This can't be it. It looks like a church website, or something. What's with the beige? Or rather, the beige on beige? Did some one puke oatmeal all over your hard drive or something?"

Followed by "what's a nice way to say -'Mia, your website is fugly!'-? There's no nice way? Ok then, Mia, your website is fugly".

Hey man, I know. I know. This is a canned layout from my web host. This was the lesser of 20 fuglier evils (subjectively speaking). I'm learning some HTML to get something, uh, more reflective of my style??? (or, as I'm sure you must be thinking right now, lack thereof).

Either way, I have a website! Yeah!

Check back frequently, cuz sooner or later the real deal will be up. And in the mean time, maybe I'll showcase a different canned and fugly layout every week, just for kicks. You never know...
