Mia Zepeda: Music

Jolly Roger Afternoon

(Mia Zepeda)
We'd spend all day long at the park
Long past the blue turning to orange turning to purple into dark
And we would fly our Jolly Roger high
in the hopes it'd lift us both up with it

Into the sky, into the sky
Into the sky, into the sky
into the sky

And our pirate ship of blankets would lift off this sea of grass
attached to the kite string that we like to call our mast
And if this skull and bones is worth a damn, we'd be flying fast
Waving at the birds and clouds as we go sailing past them

In the sky, in the sky
In the sky, in the sky
in the sky

No tree monster's gonna eat our kite this afternoon
And I would be much happier if you didn't have to leave so soon

But I am glad that it was you with me tethered to this kite
You know, it just wouldn't have been the same without you on this flight
And if the string should break and should fall, crashing to the ground
We'd watch in awe as Roger floats away without a sound

Into the sky, into the sky
Into the sky, into the sky

Into the sky, into the sky
Into the sky, into the sky
into the sky
